Japan plans to have regular business exchanges between its Kansai region, the country’s second-biggest economic zone, and China to deepen bilateral economic ties, the Kansai Economic Federation said yesterday.

The first exchange will be held in Beijing with the China-Japan Friendship Association next Tuesday, bringing together 40 high-level Chinese and Japanese business executives, said the federation, also known as Kankeiren.

The visit will be the first summit-level talks held between Kankeiren and China in two years.

Masayuki Matsushita, vice chairman of the Kankeiren and vice chairman of Japan’s Panasonic, said the China-Japan entrepreneurs’ exchange is the first of what the federation hopes will be regular business meetings with China.

“The Kansai region has deep relationship with Asian countries,” Matsushita said.

“We want to focus on non-governmental exchanges, build relationships with Chinese companies to nurture talent and foster business opportunities in a global economic environment,” he added.
