The 12th Beijing-Tokyo Forum was held from Sept. 27 - 28 in Tokyo. During the forum, the delegations from two countries had in-depth communication about the issues facing the two countries and exchanged ideas regarding how to carry on cooperation with regards to politics, economy, security assurance and media, and then reached a series of agreements, as listed below:

Both sides stressed that the two countries have already started discussing how to initiate cooperation in various areas based on the consensus reached by leaders from the two countries at the G20 summit in Hangzhou.

Both sides agreed that the civil dialogue outside the government channel will have significant effects. Therefore, for the future of Asia and the world, China and Japan should uphold the principle of peaceful and cooperative development and further promote broad exchanges at the civil level.

To achieve these goals, both sides discussed the contents below:

First, both sides realized that there is great change happening in the international environment and that the Sino-Japanese relationship is at a historic crossroad to overcoming barriers. It is very important to enhance the dialogue and exchange for the future of two countries and for the regional peace.

Second, both sides realized that their economies are now in the period of structural adjustment. To solidify and develop the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is the anchor of the Sino-Japanese relationship. Enterprises from both sides should shift cooperation concepts, innovate their cooperation models, enlarge cooperation areas and actively push forward the enterprise-to-enterprise direct contact and close cooperation.

Third, both sides believe that the two countries should correctly deal with the conflicts in the military security area and strengthen communication and dialogue in multiple channels. Both sides suggest the maritime and air liaison mechanism between two countries should be launched as early as possible, which will increase the mutual trust.

Fourth, both sides believe that the media and press have significant influence on national emotion and that media organizations should commit themselves to objective reporting so as to improve national emotions toward each other. Particularly, the new media loved by young people should be used more and made more effective.

Fifth, both sides noted that difficulties in national emotions will harm both countries' citizens' communication. To avoid such a situation, both sides agree to push forward civil communication, especially communication and dialogue between young people from two countries. In addition, both sides will push forward communication and cooperation in tourism, overseas study and employment.

Both sides acknowledge that the two countries have differences, but are resolved to keep on having dialogues in order to push forward peaceful and cooperative development. Next year will be the 45th anniversary of the normalization of China and Japan's diplomatic relationship, while the year after will mark the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the People's Republic of China and Japan.
